  1. Nail em on the tree and they become polar bear back scratchers.

  2. As a rural mail carrier driving my own car in the looooonng UP winters of Michigan for 25 years, I used to carry a couple of 3' X 1' pieces of expanded metal in the trunk for when I got stuck (Pfffft, who needs 4WD anyway if you know enough not to spin your tires when stuck). A bit of shoveling, and wedge those under the tires and drive out, mostly. Now, this was not flat expanded metal, but the type that is bent to have traction-providing edges. The flat type would not work at all I imagine. The rustier they got the better they worked.

  3. I needed those last week. 4WD is no such thing when one wheel spins and the other three just sit there. I ended up getting the jack and blocks out, lifting the wheel enough to get the kitty litter under it. These ramps would have been a lot faster, and I'll add them to the trunk.
