    1. If a legionaire is wounded on the battlefield then he will be granted immediate citizenship. This principle is called "la loi de sang versé" (the law of spilled blood).

  2. There was a time in my life where that looked like a viable option. Fortunately, the US Marine Corps took a chance on a questionable character like me.

    1. My story exactly. The foreign legion sounded romantic and dangerous and I wanted to escape my humdrum life in the stickss of rural east Tennessee. But I too ended up in Uncle Sam's Misguided Children and became a better man for it.

    2. Yep, only I chose to join the Army. What part of East Tennessee are you from? My family’s originally from Tellico Plains in Monroe County, but we bounced around between East Tennessee and Eastern Kentucky, before settling back down home.
