And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

My story exactly. The foreign legion sounded romantic and dangerous and I wanted to escape my humdrum life in the stickss of rural east Tennessee. But I too ended up in Uncle Sam's Misguided Children and became a better man for it.
Yep, only I chose to join the Army. What part of East Tennessee are you from? My family’s originally from Tellico Plains in Monroe County, but we bounced around between East Tennessee and Eastern Kentucky, before settling back down home.
