And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? Czech Legionnaires guarding a train in Siberia on a -40C day.
Heading home, going east to Vladivostok. There they sell the treasure train, buy a ship, and take their wives and families home to Czechoslovakia. Is great story.
My friend's uncle went to Russia in WWI with a delegation from the YMCA. Yes, the YMCA (Don't go all Village People on me here). His language skills were in demand and (very long story shortened) he road home with the Czech Legion.
Or it could be a -40F day. That's where the two scales converge.........
ReplyDeleteThat's where propane stops gassing too.
DeleteIf you plan to steal things from those train cars, you'd better bring your own army.
ReplyDeleteThe saga of the Czech Legion would make an excellent movie or series.
ReplyDeleteDo you think they were told to hold their breaths? Don't see any vapors!
ReplyDeleteWouldn't you just move south somewhere?
ReplyDeleteIf 1918 or later, they were heading west, back home.
