And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
It didn't win but it was a technological marvel all the same. Politics likely came into play over ability. Seems the F22 was killing pilots by asphyxiation there for a while.
So was the Hornet. And it took way too long, requiring almost a revolt or strike by naval aviators, to get the situation even acknowledged, let alone fixed.
YF-23 - MAC DAC/Northrop Grumman entry into the ATF fighter competition which was eventually awarded to the Lockheed's F-22. The YF-23 never demonstrated the ability to launch internally stored weapons. Everbody thinks it's a cool looking plane but it failed in a lot of ways.
This was the losing entry to the contest in which the F-22 won. A pity; IMHO it's a better looking plane.

ReplyDeleteTwo big aircraft companies are competing. Only one can win. Both were great aircraft, but too darned expensive.
