A Cessna 180 was buffeted by a cross wind at the Kenai Municipal Airport on Tuesday evening, ground looping before being spun off the runway. The pilot was uninjured.
Ground looping. I don't know what that is, but it sounds dramatic.
The Kenai Fire Department responded a little before 6pm. First responders say the pilot was the only soul on board and was able to maneuver the plane off the runway under its own power once it had been righted.
I think ground looping is a spin about the planes vertical axis. Happens to a lot of tail draggers.
ReplyDeleteThink cartwheel in an airplane.
DeleteThe wing dipped, hit ground or pavement hence the crumpled wing.
DeleteA ground loop is when the aircraft spins out horizontally while it's on the ground - just like a car "spinning out". Think Porsche 911 coming out of a turn ass end first.
