And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I haven't been to Skye for thirty years (odd for a man that's not over 29) and when I think of the island, I think of this song:
Sing me a song of a lad that is gone, Say could that lad be I. Merry of soul, he sailed on a day, Over the sea to Skye. Mull was astern, Rùm to the port, Eigg on the starboard bow. Glory of youth glowed in his soul, Where is that glory now? Speed bonny boat like a bird on a wing, Onward the sailors cry. Carry the lad that's born to be King, Over the sea to Skye.
Of course if you've seen the SciFi film PROMETHIUS, you'll know that there were aliens there 15,000 years ago that planned to destroy the Earth.
The song refers to Bonny Prince Charlie fleeing Scotland for Skye after the Battle of Culloden, which went badly for the Scots even though they mauled the English Army. From Skye, he went to France. Scotland and France were traditional allies against England and Wales was against all of them as was Ireland.
