And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I never had smoked smelt. However, it's cousin Eulachon, (also ooligan or candlefish) is always on my list of fish to smoke and consume. (Never had it with bread or toast or sourdough.) My last batch of five pounds of smoked ooligan lasted a day and a half at our house. I prefer my fish smoked, not burnt as the picture displays, but I willing to sample whatever is pictured. Oh Alaska, land of ooligan, and we really can see Russia from here, in spite of all the leftist crap the media threw and Palin. On a good day you can take a skiff ride from Little Diamede to Big Diamede; on an extremely cold day you can walk there.
Fresh they're really good, I don't care for the canned variety though. We have the annual Sardine Run over which is quite a spectacular natural event, google KwaZulu-Natal Sardine Run
