  3. I never had smoked smelt. However, it's cousin Eulachon, (also ooligan or candlefish) is always on my list of fish to smoke and consume. (Never had it with bread or toast or sourdough.) My last batch of five pounds of smoked ooligan lasted a day and a half at our house. I prefer my fish smoked, not burnt as the picture displays, but I willing to sample whatever is pictured. Oh Alaska, land of ooligan, and we really can see Russia from here, in spite of all the leftist crap the media threw and Palin. On a good day you can take a skiff ride from Little Diamede to Big Diamede; on an extremely cold day you can walk there.

  7. That is a grilled sardine. A Pilchard. Popular in Europe and Morrocco. Never had them, fresh 'deens hard to come by in the Midwest US.

    1. Fresh they're really good, I don't care for the canned variety though. We have the annual Sardine Run over which is quite a spectacular natural event, google KwaZulu-Natal Sardine Run
