  1. Okay, I'll ask it: What are the second set of hour and minute hands used for?

    1. It's a 'trip time' feature. Before the first take-off of the day the trip time hands are set to zero and started. Upon landing, push the button to stop the trip time. At each subsequent take-off and landing start and stop the clock. At the end of the day's flying the total flight time is recorded in the aircraft and engine logbooks. Some versions of the RR Merlin were supposed to be overhauled every 75 hours so recording the flight time was important.
