  6. I've had my licence for 3 years now and fish from time to time in my local river and my sister in law's local river about 45 mins away. Still to land one of the darned things and haven't even hooked up in my local. I pretend I do it for the peace and quiet it gives but the first one I land is coming home.

    1. Know what you need, use them myself up in the White Mountains, NH. No self respecting trouts can resist a nice big fat nightcrawler, just long line it down the current, they do the rest.

    2. ps, its a little known fact of trout, after they reach a specific size, they begin to only go for food of adequate size, because they are in a state of life where they can use more energy than they can replace, ie, big fish takes more energy to move than smaller fry, so the big ones get very finnicky, the trick is to present large enough appearing lure, that they will choose to go after, thats why the large nightcrawler, its pure protein and fat for them. Applies to surf casting say for stripers, its why you have those very large bright popper lures, looks like a big tasty squid. Remember the axiom about the bigger the lure the larger the fish?
