  3. My grandfather in law worked with cowboys one summer in the 1940's in Wyoming. Said they were mostly drunk, dirty, farting hard working tough guys.
He became a geologist and worked for oil companies and traveled the world. I think that was his cowboy way.
How many Americans sleep under the stars even once in their lives? And not in their backyard or passed out at a frat party, back country camping and seeing the Milky Way like humans did for thousands of years?

    1. January 1967; Highpoint of an uneventful operation in the Mekong Delta occurred one night standing gun watch. Not a star gazer, I just looked up, somehow connected the "dots" - and there it was, the "Southern Cross".

  4. I think many, many Americans alive today have enjoyed the experience of sleeping in a remote or semi remote place (by good planning or bad fortune) this gorgeous country has offered. If not, they are a very impoverished group.
