And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Not that long ago the Colorado Fish and Game Dept. (or one of the wildlife departments) re-introduced wolves into the wild. Almost at once, several cattlemen raised a huge stink that the wolves killed some of their beef calves. When asked "How many did they kill?" The reply was three. Then when asked home may cows and steers do you have?" The reply was, "10,000."
JEEZ!!!
The next question should have been, "How many calves die during the winter?" I am sure the reply would have been "100 or so."
John, those 3 are each $800, more now. How about you pony up the $2400 the rancher lost? And point of fact: they DID NOT reintroduce anything. These are CANADIAN wolves, they have that name for a reason. Those bastards are a blight on everything. I've watched a wonderful elk population of 80,000 animals dwindle down to under half the pre wolf days. Calves are born in the spring, so you don't lose calves in the winter. Have you ever been on a ranch? Cause you don't seem to know much.
Greg- In my part of NorCal, 600 pound steers are currently selling at market for close to $3 a pound. That's an $1800 animal. Meanwhile, Cal Fish and Game is all a twitter that there are now 7 confirmed wolfpacks in the state. One pack has been seen in my county.
Fun Fact: The 'expert' that 'reintroduced' (imported) 'wolves' (hybrid dogs) into California is the same guy that did it in Colorado. IMHO, he's not really an expert, he's a Commie Enviro Activist with a college degree for hire.
Found an intact wolf skeleton on a timber harvest site last spring and dragged a collared roadkill onto the shoulder 200 feet south of my driveway before calling it in back in July. Bobcats wander through the field every now and again and barred owls have been calling quite a bit.
I haven't seen a buck in the back yard since 2020, but my wife saw a mountain lion 4 miles south of the house on the way to work last month.
Predators are fun unless you want to try raising chickens and the neighbor dumps his dead cattle just over the drainage ditch from your land.
I would actually pay a cents more for steak and burger/say a buck on leather jackets to pay back the farmers and thus only kill repeat offenders,I can also not buy beef or leather but do like both.
My guess is folks will say those wolves imported,well.......,so was the beef cattle any one ranch buffalo?).
You're post is difficult to understand. If you can think about it, cattle provide the exact same benefit to the land the bison did. Yeah, gotta crawl outta the basement, actually THINK, hard to do, I know, but follow me here. The bison help the land the way the beaver does, ie: improve habitat. How in world can that be? Ever seen a HOOF PRINT? Do you know what accumulates in a hoof print? Water, which helps the desert/range enormously. Bottom line: My forefathers eradicated wolves grizzlies, and damn nearly the mountain lion. Why? Because they're a dangerous problem, and they valued themselves and their CHILDREN over everything else.
Greg was not the comment that said F-yourself,though,really doesn't bother me,was actually a simple question,do people actually just raise bison,r4eally not that hard when you think about it,guess you need out of the cellar more often.

I live at the intersection of three packs.
