Mrs. CW uses one of these all the time. It has an annoying buzzer (I think), but it gets your attention that the eggs are done.

  1. Pop the housing, install tape over said annoying buzzer. Fixed.
(Did it with our microwave, same model as the old one...except going from a reasonable 3 beeps to an annoying 5, as if someone sat in a meeting and decided people needed 2 more beeps to know their reheated coffee was ready.)

  2. These days, showcasing the availability of seven eggs in your household is like parking a Ferrari in your driveway.

Buzzer is ANNOYING! But push the button and it stops. Easiest way to hard boil eggs ever! Eggs always perfectly cooked and very, very easy to peel. Best Christmas gift in years!!!!

  4. At Kroger today I saw Large eggs for $5.49 a dozen.
I see no need for panic, not by a long margin.

  5. I cook my eggs in a boiler pot for 15 minutes. It makes the eggs easier to peal.

  6. My sister just gave me one of these. I've tried two eggs at a time, for each of the 3 settings. I don't really care for it - the two "soft-boiled eggs" were in reality hard-boiled - and I'm gonna go back to my old method. While I love good food, I don't go to any trouble for myself; if I have to prepare it food is just fuel, and a hard-boiled egg is everything I need from an egg.
So, I put my Dutch oven on the stove, put 2 cups of water into it, and turn on the heat. I load a full carton (18 eggs) into a stainless steel flat-bottomed colander that just fits into the pot. (It hangs by its rim, possibly 1-1/2 inches above the bottom.) Once the water comes to a boil I put the colander in the pot and cover it. Set a timer for 7-1/2 minutes. Once the time is up I take the pot off the heat and let it cool. Once the eggs are at room temperature the loaded colander goes into the refrigerator. (I eat two eggs a day.) Perfectly hard-boiled, and it renders eggs that are easier to peel than anything else I've tried.
