And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
When I was a tyke (under 1 yr old), we had a collie that would not allow me near the water if Ma or Dad wasn't out watching me. I could be out on the dock watching the fish and Dad would step behind the corner of the cabin, and Rebel would grab me by the seat of the pants (padded by a diaper) and pull me up to the middle of the yard. then keep between me and the water no matter what I did. Dad would then step into view and say "I'm right here." and the dog would step out of my way.
