And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
That's a picture from the Tour de France in the 1920s. He has a spare tire wrapped around his shoulders as riders had to fix their own flats. The first car will be the race officials making sure he doesn't cheat and the second car is probably some journalists. Al_in_Ottawa
I rode the Seattle to Portland classic 200 mile ride as a twoday vent on a brand new Ron Cooper track bike, fixed gear no brakes. Accompanied by two friends, one n the twin of mine (both painted by Ron in British Racing Green with gold pinstriping) and a third rider on a restored vintage Windsor track bike (those were built in Mexico by Cino CInelli's company back in the 50's into the 70's) fixed gear works just fine.
My favourite by far is the red LandRover Series 1 86. I had that same model lhd with the factory diesel engine. Restored it then my lil' brother fell in love with it and stole it from me. He did drop a decent sized pile of coppers on the floor on his way out. So I'm not very mad at him......
Nice buggy w/ the SC tag. Looks like a V-12. Given the scenery, it's in the Upstate, so we're unlikely to see it here in the Lowcountry.
ReplyDeleteBring extra earplugs.
DeleteBased on the mountain laurel, I’d say the car with SC plates might be up in the Smokies, maybe to drive Deal’s Gap/TOTD.
DeleteGreat collection!
ReplyDeleteProof that assholes on bicycles have been holding up traffic as long as there have been bicycles and traffic.

DeleteAnyone using the car in picture 12 for commuting will need double hearing protection, but oh, that would be fun.

ReplyDeleteOn the old photo of the guy climbing the mountain on the bike, this was on a fixed gear bicycle back in the day. The folks now days have it easy!

ReplyDeleteThe one image of the road built on the side of the cliff; I might have a problem trying to negotiate it in a car.

ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure that green steel truss bridge is the Red Cliff Bridge, over the Eagle River between Minturn and Leadville, Colorado.
