  2. some of the best rides i've ever been on have been through the desert right after a rain. the smell of the desert after a rain is incredible.

    1. I concur! In '68 Dad and I drove to San Diego to visit his folks. If I remember correctly, there had been a drought (along with the normal heat) but it started raining just before we stopped for the night at the Grand Canyon. The smell of rain, ozone, and whatever the evergreen trees were . . . (pine?) Just heavenly. And after that, the desert bloomed.
      I wonder how often a saguaro gets hit by lightening? Full of water, and the tallest thing around!
