  2. I have a 2 year old 12.00 Timex. When it stops, I'll buy another 12.00 Timex. Life is too short to waste good money on Fancy watches, IMHO.

    1. At my age, life really is short, so if I like it I might as well go for it. Or that's the rationalization, anyway. Given the crapola I've spent money on in the past, this is just a blip. Still, the twelve dollar Timex calls...

    2. So I checked out the Timex web page, and the cheapest I saw was 49 bucks. The watches that were comparable to this Avi-8 ranged from 130 to 250 dollars, so no such thing as a twelve dollar watch unless you go junker used.

  4. Like you it’s not about need but want. Have two AVI-8 watches and they are solid and look great…on top of my everyday work watches that I don’t worry bout scratching. But, yeah, this one is stunning, and at a great price. And besides, can’t take it with you and there are few joys in life…so might as well. (Similar to buying single ply terlit paper…why?)

  6. I spent years wanting a Rolex Oyster Perpetual, but never could afford the bucks until I was stationed in the UK with serious Overseas Housing Allowance. I was at the NEX in London, they had a jewelry counter with a sign saying 25% off gold jewelry. I asked the Chief for the watch with 25% off... She said the Rolex weren't onsale, but gave me 15% off. So I got a Rolex for $3600, wearing it now and it looks brand new. Tldr; Buy the watch you want and take care of it.

    1. That Rolex is probably easily worth seven or eight thousand now. Maybe more. Insanely good investment.

  7. I still don't get the fascination, but to each their own...

  8. I havent worn a watch since I started carrying a cell phone, and for the last 15 years Ive done construction type work where I dont wear my wedding ring either.
I dont see the fascination with expensive watches, as long as it keeps good time, thats all Id want. Its like a refrigarator or washing machine, its an appliance, not a status symbol. Now cars, thats a different story.
Ive owned cool cars since I was 15, starting with a 66 Thunderbird, followed by a 69 four door Thunderbird, (the coolest looking four door car ever made), a 69 Mercury Cyclone, a 62 Mercury Meteor, a 77 Dodge Aspen (not cool, ditched it for a 78 Formula Firebird, followed by a 1970 Trans Am, another 66 Thunderbird, a 77 Bronco, a 76 Toyota Celica and a 79 Celica, a 95 4Runner with the turbo diesel,

current stable includes a 71 Bronco Ive owned for 20 years, with fuel injection and AC, and a 64 Falcon station wagon, that I installed EFI and AC , a 76 Chevy stepside 4wd with EFI and AC, a 87 Mitsubishi Starion, a 88 S-10 Blazer, and a couple of others, like a 81 Chevy longbed diesel.

I do have a pocketwatch my uncle brought back from europe in WW-2 , but it has no brand name on it. It actually runs and keeps good time.
