And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
The only reason they have a shelf life of two weeks is because factory farmed eggs have been washed in a chlorine rinse removing the protective film the hen secretes when laying the egg. Eggs directly from the hen can last 6 weeks without refrigeration but not directly in the sun either. The only country to my knowledge that requires egg refrigeration is the U.S.
As to how long eggs last, I keep about 4 doz in the fridge, some up to 3 months since I bought them. By the time they get to the store, they're already 2-4 weeks out of the chicken depending on the supply chain length and time of year. They taste the same when cooked as the ones fresh from the store. Probably not as good as fresh from the hen, but it's been a long time since I had one so can't compare.
If this is a consumer's fridge, I wonder if they know that fresh eggs have a shelf life of about two weeks.
ReplyDeleteTwo weeks? Since when?

ReplyDeleteSix weeks direct from the hen? Sorry, you've been misinformed.
DeleteWe are both WRONG. Unwashed and unfertilized eggs will last two to three weeks unrefrigerated and up to three months (that's 12 weeks) in the fridge.
ReplyDeleteok girls, Molting is now done. Get back to work!
ReplyDeleteI don't get the egg panic thing. $5.37 for 18 at Walmart.
ReplyDeleteI paid $6.99 for 1 doz Jumbo White this morning.

My wife and I try to always purchase eggs directly from the chicken farmer. FRESH eggs are so far above and beyond anything from the grocery store.
