About 300 bucks worth these days

  1. If this is a consumer's fridge, I wonder if they know that fresh eggs have a shelf life of about two weeks.

  2. The only reason they have a shelf life of two weeks is because factory farmed eggs have been washed in a chlorine rinse removing the protective film the hen secretes when laying the egg. Eggs directly from the hen can last 6 weeks without refrigeration but not directly in the sun either. The only country to my knowledge that requires egg refrigeration is the U.S.

    1. Six weeks direct from the hen? Sorry, you've been misinformed.

  3. We are both WRONG. Unwashed and unfertilized eggs will last two to three weeks unrefrigerated and up to three months (that's 12 weeks) in the fridge.

    1. I paid $6.99 for 1 doz Jumbo White this morning.

As to how long eggs last, I keep about 4 doz in the fridge, some up to 3 months since I bought them. By the time they get to the store, they're already 2-4 weeks out of the chicken depending on the supply chain length and time of year. They taste the same when cooked as the ones fresh from the store. Probably not as good as fresh from the hen, but it's been a long time since I had one so can't compare.

    2. My wife and I try to always purchase eggs directly from the chicken farmer. FRESH eggs are so far above and beyond anything from the grocery store.
