That's one way to raise a pole

  3. That's called "piking a pole". Pole Pikes have a pointed metal tip that digs into the pole. Used them when setting poles where a truck couldn't get to....

  4. Wow, . . . gotta be extra careful, . . . that gets away from you, you're not going to be able to get out of the way fast enough (especially on the side of a hill) :) !

  5. In a small town in Germany in 1990 I watched them raise a tall May Pole that way. Four men holding each pair of crossed poles. On command they all lifted together, braced it and took a break. It took all mornin during the May Day Festival.
