High Wheel Logging

  1. A five and a half foot Sugar Pine second cut. Just an average log back in the day when they creamed the woods.
Not complaining, that's just the way it was. They thought the timber would never run out.

  2. Big timber did. "Scientific Tree Farming", aka Weyerhaeuser, took over.

    1. Ever seen a photo of replanted Weyerhaeuser land next to Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument ground? I have.

I prefer Weyerhaeuser's version of forest management over FedGuv's version. I also prefer green trees sequestering carbon over moonscapes any day of the week. So do the critters.

  3. Amazing what they could do with hand tools and horse power.

  4. Looks like a photo from Manistee MI history museum. An actual working version of this device sits in front of the museum.
