    1. It's bad enough at the zoo, and they only have a dozen penguins.

    2. Pengies reek. It's like they turn everything they eat, into ammonia.

  4. I don't know about going down to Tasmania for a month but I wouldn't mind going down to "Deep Red" for a month in your earlier post. Damn, is she hot or what?

  5. Tasmania, Australia, I went to google because google knows everything and will tell you what you need to know.
They said you couldn't get there for Redding, then they said you couldn't get there from San Francisco. Maybe you don't really need to go to Tasmania?

I'm persistent on occasion so I asked if you could go from SanFran to Melbourne? They allowed that is possible!

I'll bet you could find a way there from Melbourne! (Just don't talk about it with your phone around...not even if you use an iPhone, I'll bet they talk from time to time :-)

  7. Take plenty of $$ as Australia is expensive to visit. The side trip to Tasmania is probably best through Sydney. The two times I went to Australia it was much cheaper to fly into Pert than Sydney then get a connecting flights to Alice Springs and Adelaide. It was 10 years ago where I was on an expense account and easily spent over $100 on meals daily.

  8. It was either Oct. or Nov. 1976 while onboard the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) we went to Hobart, Tasmania for a week. One of the best weeks of my life. The local lager was Cascade and they made special labels with the ship's picture on it.

  9. I would have to run through the flock with my umbrella, make them take off and crash a plane just like Sean Connery in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade"

  10. I don't know what they taste like but it's going to take more than a month to eat them all.

  14. A good read of early Tasmania - "Van Dieman's Land" is "For the Term of His Natural Life" by Marcus Clarke which was published in 1870 or so. The title comes from the prison sentence handed down to early "Transports" to Australia. Novel is set around 1825, some 35-years after the "First Transport" of convicts in 1788. Including a 1983 mini-series and the 1952 film "Botany Bay", several screen adaptations of the novel have been made. Perhaps not the primary reason for settlement, Australia became a penal colony following England's loss in the American Revolution. In the former colonies, at least Georgia had originally been a penal colony.

  15. Only fairy penguins in Tassie and they nest/rest in burrows. They are about a foot high when standing. This will be on Macquarie Island, half way between Tassie and Antarctica
