  6. I took my new girlfriend with me on one of those to the top of the Zugspitze in 1986. Fantastic views. As soon as we got to the “top” the “top” turned out to be just a shoulder of the mountain, with another shoulder (and looonnng cable run) several hundred meters above. We broke thru the cloud layer and holy crap it’s still a long way to the top!

    At one point I was going on about the views whe I noticed my girlfriend was standing absolutely still with wide eyes.

    Is there a problem? Slow nod.

    Why didn’t you tell me before we got on? “Because you wanted to go.”

    We took the cog train thru the tunnel inside the mountain to get back down
