    1. Why would she tape cardboard over the radiator? Keep the salt out?

    2. Keep the operating temp a bit higher on cold days/high speeds, easier to do and undo than switching out the thermostat.

    1. Fenders would add a lot of weight and drag, thus the skinny tires with
      no tread. Cardboard would probably have cut a little drag also.
