Vank Cathedral built in 1664 located in Isfahan Iran. I could be wrong, but I think "Vank" means something like cathedral.

  1. Amazing, yes. But really a minor engineering marvel. Please see the Blue Mosque, the Süleymaniye Mosque and the Hagia Sophia. What men could build then cannot be built today. If one searches for reasons for the 'fall of civilization', one should begin here.

  3. Something conveniently forgotten is that the Middle East was predominantly Christian. The Hagia Sophia was a cathedral built in Constantinople (now called Istanbul). When the Muslims conquered Constantinople they turned the engineering marvel known as the Hagia Sophia into a mosque.

The Holy Savior Cathedral, also known the Church of the Saintly Sisters, is a cathedral located in the New Julfa district of Isfahan, Iran. It is commonly referred to as the Vank, which means "monastery" or "convent" in the Armenian language.
