Supermarine Walrus "Spotter of Spartivento", one of the spotting aircraft used during the battle of Capo Spartivento, 27 November 1940, and the naval bombardment of Genoa, 9 February 1941, prepares to be launched from the catapult on cruiser HMS Sheffield.

  1. Sheffield was a busy ship and wasn’t on a Med Cruise at Spartivento. In addition to Artic convoy duty, Sheffield sank several ships and actively participated in actions that sank Bismarck, Hipper and Scharnhorst. She also participated in action against Tirpitz.

In May 1982 during action in the Falkland Islands, namesake destroyer Sheffield was heavily damaged in a missile attack by Argentine aircraft. Abandoned and under tow, she foundered several days later.
