And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I saw your previous post on the Gee Bee. It reminded me that somewhere (as a descendant) I have a black and white pic of the plane with a very young Jimmy Doolittle waving from the cockpit. Tucked in the back of the frame is a letter from General Doolittle to my Great Uncle (other side of the family) who served under him as a belly gunner when he commanded the 8th Bomber Command. I vaguely remember that in the letter, he mentions what it was like the first time he landed the Gee Bee so he admired anyone laying underneath in that bubble while the B-17 was landing.
Full speed!!! Into the future!!!
ReplyDeleteI believe the Bee Gee's were built for air racing. The problem was takeoffs and landings. Full bore or fall.
