And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Pizza Nirvana tonight
Papa Murphy's Family Size, thick crust, half Magnifico, half Hawaiian. There's only two of us.
Feast!
And it'll be God's Breakfast tomorrow - cold pizza.
Unless you've deliberately over-ordered, there shouldn't be any pizza left to get cold! Or maybe you just don't take that last slice in the box or on a plate as a challenge to the time honored principle of finishing what you started, like I do.
Always order or make more than you'll need, cold pizza for breakfast is almost as important as the dinner. The same goes for meatloaf, I've always figured that meatloaf was made for sandwiches the next day, having enough for dinner that night was good planning!
Out here on the Great Plains, it was the usual national chain cardboard pizza like Pizza Hut, Poppa John's and Domino's and that's all. No regional or independent purveyors of excellent pie. Then Poppa Murphy came in. They may suck to those of you with other choices but we Thank God for His dispensation of Murphy's. Just sayin'.
Cold pizza is an awesome dish. My standard meal plan for one is eat three slices now, and pair off two slices each for lunch. The 'spare' - for snack sometime the next day.
No Poppa Murphy here though, like the post above, its pretty much standard old school pizza franchises, with a few locals piping in. Along the Texas / Mexico border so those influences are strong. For me, a large Domino's hand tossed, Spinach - Italian Sausage - Pepperoni with some mozzarella and I'm good to go.
Pineapple on pizza is heresy! Biggest obstacle making homemade pizza is finding decent tomato sauce. Doctoring up OTS sauces works but it's not the real deal. Traditionally, the "Last Slice" is known as the "Pig Piece". Whomsoever scarfs it up is thusly recognized. But hey, I ain't proud.
The best sauce for homemade pizza that I've found is to make a combination of tomato paste with herbs and a good marinara, preferably with basil. Mix them in ~equal proportions and you get a nice, strong tomato flavor with herb undertones - without getting soggy.
I tried for the same thing yesterday...pizza purchased in distant Flagstaff, AZ at lunch. Grazing at dinner, evening snack and yeah, cold cereal for breakfast.
I never fed my children junky breakfast food. On school mornings their favourite breakfast was last night's lasagna, pizza, whatever we ate. One liked to take her morning bath 2 eat fresh mangoes because they were messy to eat.
What, no jalapenos ?
ReplyDeleteCold pizza the next morning is how you can tell if it's good pizza.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'll have to try Papa Murphy's again; that ( well, the Hawaiian half does ) looks really good.
Thanks for the post.

I hear Papa's got a special topping to make the San Francisco street dwellers feel more inclusive: Rat droppings.
ReplyDeletePineapple on pizza is an offense against God. Nona wants a word with you! 😆
ReplyDeleteExactly!

ReplyDeleteBut pineapple on a pizza is criminal!
You can get better spices at the same price (or better) from The Spice House, the which does not hate you and want to destroy your country.
