And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
My Scout 800 had the 4 banger, 196 c.i. - essentially half of a big block. It took me literally from N-S and E-W across the USA. Had the twin saddle gas tanks so you drove till it sputtered then reached down and turned the valve by your seat to pull from tank #2. Summertime, the top stayed off. What a machine, but even then parts were not always easy to come by. Best place to get them was Smokey Yunick's garage in Daytona Beach, which was fine, as long as I was living there....not so much when I went back to Maine....
Back in our 4 wheeling days, a good friend had a Scout. 345 and a four speed. Toughest truck I ever saw.
ReplyDeleteI had a buddy with one too, and it was a true, no frills, go anywhere machine.
DeleteWhat a coincidence. Just finished lunch with a guy who work on the Scout line at I.H., and it's his birthday next week. We ordered the book.
