Timelapse of the draining and collapse of the Kilauea summit over the spring and summer, as the lave drained out through fissure 8.

  1. It's an interesting time lapse. I know that you're following events a lot more closely than I am. Does USGS feel that the eruption is over? For now...

    1. The eruption is momentarily over, but no one can say if it will fire up again soon or go fifty years. There is a history of exactly this kind of eruption with lava drainage, separated by decades.

Needless to say, it was a hugely interesting event for scientists to study in real time.

  2. Land next to it will be relatively cheap. Better hurry and put up a house while you can...
