And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
That's what the kid needed, I bet! Don't know which movie this was from, but I imagine the kid mouthed off to The Duke when he should have been respectful (and in school instead of fishing.)
Last night I enjoyed "McLintock," a fun film with John Wayne & Katherine Hepburn; it's a retelling of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew only set in the West. It's about an uppity woman who sneers at the common folk & who finally gets her comeuppance in a public spanking!
Just imagine trying to make that film now. We've sure fallen a long way!

No kidding.
