“Fight for the Water Hole” – art by Frederic Remington, 1903

  1. This one actually has a basis in fact. The story is told that in an effort to combat the Indians from crossing the desert along our southern border to make raids from Mexico, soldiers were stationed in small detachments guarding the water holes. I guess it beat chasing them. That does look like the area just south and west of the Davis Mountains in Texas, although I have never seen a water hole look quite like that.
