Portrait (Front) of Nakai (Bear Woman), Daughter of Oivit (Scabby), Cheyenne, in Native Dress with Ornaments - Gill - June 1908

  1. I like the elk teeth.

Having a mother named "Scabby" would be tough when the other kids at school joined in.

  2. Her mother was not named Scabby, it was her father. This girl did not go to school, so not sure what you think is funny. Native people were/are given names at birth that have a specific meaning, and sometimes were given a different name throughout their lifetime, mostly males.
