  1. Because of the focal length with telephoto, the plane could be hundreds of yards beyond the helo.

  2. Was the lead plane on the job? I used to be a lead plane pilot and here it looks like there was no directing traffic over the fire.

    1. Where I come from Scoopers (CL-215s and CL-415s) are considered 'Initial Attack' and don't require a lead plane. YMMV where you're at.

      And I too believe that picture is photoshopped.

    1. Yes, I immediately thought it was fake. The helicopter is going to take a bite out of the trees irrespective of anything else.

  4. As Tree Mike said, camera lens can do strange things to in image - all in the camera, no Photoshop required. Wide angle lens make thing look larger than they really are. Telephotos flatten (remove separation between objects in the foreground and background).
