And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

This seems kooky, but I've heard people say these keep mosquitoes away as well as bug spray.
You know, mosquitoes don't have much of a brain, just a few neurons, so they can't exactly be smart enough to really look at the dragonfly and think, "hey, that ain't real." They'll just avoid you.
The problem I see is that if I left it on when I went into a store, somebody would swat my head with a 2x4.
I can say dragon flies do a fantastic job against every flying pest. Learned something about them, they breed in small brooks that have slow moving water, found a scirntific school supply house in Mass., ordered a box of larvae from them, dumped them in our brook along the property line, just amazing, no skeeters or black flies, no chiggers, not even house and livestock flies, we sit out at say sunset, be a hundred dragonflies stay where we sit or move. Big ones too, some get to grandaddy size. I'm not kidding, they eat everything that flies, first time my whole life can sit out and not get bit a hundred times.
I was sentenced to Winterpeg Manisnowbah for a bunch of years and concerts in the park during the summer were pretty much mosquito free (which is amazing for that place) because it looked like 'Nam with all the dragonflies. I love 'em
They find us via exhaled CO2. The one place where CO2 is "bad". Had the little bastards infiltrate thru the smallest hole and find me when I was trying to grab some 💤 at a truck stop one time.

ReplyDeletePlease share the source for the dragonfly larvae
DeleteMy wife used to catch a dragonfly and release it in her bedroom for mosquito suppression.

ReplyDeleteMy wife loves them. Keeps the horse flies away.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried giving her a good bath
DeleteYeah I don't think that mosquitos even have "eyes" that could see a dragonfly. They pretty much work on odor and heat sensors.
