Just heard a story from my nurse daughter in law about stopping an artery bleed. Might be a good idea to have a couple of these in the truck and know how to use them.

  1. Yes, I strongly agree. Get 3, 2 for the emergency kit and one to practice with.

  2. The key is, "Knowing how to use them".
If you do, then you can make a tourniquet out of everyday materials, instantly.

If you DON'T know how to use them, buying some will be of little use to you and may do more harm than good.

    2. Yes yes yes.... You can cause someone to lose a limb if you don't know what you are doing with a tourniquet...

  3. Sorry, CW, but buying tourniquets from Amazon is asking for trouble. There are far too many stories of fake tourniquets bought through Amazon for me to be comfortable doing this. I buy mine from from North American Rescue. NAR isn't the only game in the town, but whatever you do, I recommend that you buy directly from a reputable manufacturer.

Regarding training, yes, do get trained. Stop The Bleed courses are free and available pretty much anywhere. I've been 3 times.

  5. Soft T all the way, have and tried all styles, the latest are even better. Have one attached to every long gun stock, aside from one in AFAK kits, the soft t's are a bit more difficult to carry cause of the aluminum bar, but worth it, they are not as painful when cranked down, plus you can add a pusher like a unwound roll of gauze as a pressure point, took to using high grade 3M electricians tape, (no sticky residue and hold up in heat, lot of stretch), fold over the tail so its easy to grab by feel alone and unwrap quickly. The aluminum bar is a great feature. Had a CAT plastic crank snap clean apart, at 28 F bunch years back during a TTTP class. Not many tourniquet pouches fit the soft T, though a TACO double stack pistol or single AR mag works pretty good, with the AR pouch there is room for a set of scissors.

  6. Something like 78% of combat deaths are from bleeding out, or rather where, higher in civ circumstances. And with the TTTP system the survival rate is amazingly high now, what with chest seals and needles even higher.
Such an easy thing, but so well worth it, long as you can move you can self save yourself, and thats the idea, lot of civilians die from bleed-outs when if they had a tourniquet they be alive today. Put one in the truck with your truck gun.

  7. Keep 2 in my work van. One in the glove box and one in the first aid kit for the jobsite. Grab a trauma pack instant clot pack too. And a small bottle of Jack. It's gonna burn like hell. Chemical carterize. Release that thing every 10-15 minutes until you get one squirm of blood
