The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I can say so. Over time I've caught them with drastically varied colors that match their environment. From light granite rivers to deep tannnin rich dark bottom brooks, you'd think they are different species of brookies.
Many Brookies in the streams of the U.P. of Michigan are as darkly colored, or even more darkly covered depending on the tannin levels in the water, as noted by Anon.
The brook trout in Big Spring at Newville used to be bright and colored like tigers, In Big Fishing Creek at Lamar, they were silvery. This one has parr markings.
