And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Sure is insanity... and I view all those "cliff climbers" as having the same mindset... totally screwed in the head... ! "Just because you "might" be able to do it, doesn't mean one should !"
Lost a good friend to that kind of extreme kayaking. Decades of experience, the best equipment, in excellent condition. Found dead in a river he'd run dozens of times. Nobody knows what happened. He just "didn't come back". Devastating.
If folks with screwed mindsets like this want real "highs" from extreme events..? Give them the gun of their choice, send them to the front lines of a major current conflict and give them a suicide mission... Bet their mindset changes pretty quick.
Reminds me of when Greg Noll rode that 60 foot wave off of Waimea. He paddled out and watched it for a while, then figured he had a 50-50 chance of survival. So he went for it.
Well, that wouldn't my choice in committing suicide, but to each, his own.
