Finishing touches on a turbine.

  2. A large steam turbine, apparently built by Brown Boverie et Cie (Swiss) around 1975. No idea who the client was.

Einstein said, “It is the only physical theory of universal content, which I am convinced, that within the framework of applicability of its basic concepts will never be overthrown.”

Richard Mueller (Prof. UC Berkeley, ret) thinks the second law is a tautology that explains nothing. https://www.quora.com/Does-Richard-...imes-arrows/answer/Richard-Muller-3?srid=E7fv

Personally, having taking courses in both mechanical engineering thermodynamics and chemical thermodynamics, it is the most satisfying, complete, enlightening topic I have ever encountered in science.

    1. Hooray for Electro Thermo Dynamics! Quantum theory explained, requires quantum leaps in thinking. Small ones, but leaps nonetheless.

  3. So, . . . what is it for? A hydroelectric dam?

    1. No. This would be a steam turbine.

  4. The facility to demineralize the water covers about a quarter acre.

  5. Looks like a very large steam turbine. Two low pressure turbines at the far end, and intermediate pressure turbine and a high pressure turbine at the near end. Probably a thousand megawatt generator

  7. Such exquisite technology. Yeah its on a smaller scale, what SpaceX has accomplished with its new Raptor III, is that almost quantum mechanics, so close, unheard of ergs out of every atom of fuel. The pinnacle, the Acme, of chemical reaction fuel rocket motors.
They been a messing with ion drives on their sat comms system since inception of launching the constellation, be very surprised if they have not worked out an upscaled ion engine. Musk hinted couple times whats happening in the burn chamber on raptors is as close to quantum physics as is possible to get. So they got to be deep into a electro thermal dynamic drive system. The Russians let out their final prototypes are close to full production, reduce Earth to Mars down to weeks travel time with the thrust figures they claim will be available. Russians are great Rocketeers. NASA used their RD180 for decades on Atlas Centuar.

  9. This turbine plus its attached electrical generator provide enormous rotation inertia to stabilize the electrical grid. The recent Spanish outage lacked enough of units like this.
