The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? Yes, it is. I once watched a pair of Red-tailed Hawks doing it, during which they fell at least a hundred feet in elevation before they broke off and recovered flight. It was a pretty awesome thing to behold.
