And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
My feelings exactly. Joe made Paul’s tune swing, even in 5/4 time. What a magnificent groove he laid down. This version is a bit fast for my tastes, but it still has that magic.
...back around '75, my Boss gave me tickets to Kennedy Center to see Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton, Bucky Pizzarelli and Bobby Hackett. Great performance was more jam session than concert.
Was 16 got my first gig in radio at WEBN-FM in Cincy OH. Automated station, Classical music by day Jazz at night. I watched the system nights on weekends. Can you believe it, $1.50 an hour. I'd have paid them to get into the 'biz'. First time I heard this tune. Memories. God bless you Miles Duffy.
Joe Morello.

DeleteI was in high school when the "Take Five" album came out. It was a smash hit.
ReplyDeleteNever did care for it. Prefer Benny Goodman's 1938 "Sing Sing Sing"
ReplyDeleteIt's all good

Timeless classic.
ReplyDeleteThat's like a 45 played at 78. Boo.
ReplyDeleteThe tune, however, rates 5 stars out of 4.
Brubeck said years ago that his inspiration for this was an old Hit n Miss pump engine his family had on the farm he grew up on.
