And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
'Swing Time' wherein Astaire also sings 'The Way You Look Tonight' in a great moment with Ginger Rogers. Wonderful movie and as you noted, no AI. When actors could sing, dance and act. And it seemed like it was less about them and more about what they could actually do. Steve_in_Ottawa.
Not to change the mood or throw water on the proceeding but I understand that Fred Astaire was such a perfectionist that he often refused to perform with intended dance partners who did not do exactly what he wanted.
I remember this entire scene set to an "electro-swing" composition. Whomever did it was a master. Search YT for "fred & ginger parov stelar". FYI, the original song that was "redone" has very old school, very non-PC lyrics. It's also hilarious.
They did things back then without AI. Remarkable human beings. In black and white on cellular film too.

ReplyDeleteYou just set the viewing for my evening.
DeleteI still watch old movies. Wish I had more Astaire on DVD in the library.
ReplyDeleteDVD for your library? AnyDVD, CloneDVD, an external DVD burner, blank DVDs and a public library is one answer. Amazon is another...

ReplyDeleteThe dance in the movie, The Producers, between Matthew what's his name and the tall blonde is very reminiscent of the golden age. Very well done.
