Check out the length of those cartridges. Any ideas what they might be? 45-90?

  4. I watched Quigley two nights ago. The valley shown here is a spittin image of the one in the movie.
Perhaps this photo is from making the movie.

  5. 45-120, aka 45-31/4. Not a traditional chambering for 1874 Sharps, but was cataloged by Winchester as an "express" load in the late 1800's. "Quigley" used a
45-110 aka 45-27/8. This Sharps has a sight that can make good use of either.

    2. An Elmore Leonard story.

El Segundo: Tell me something... Who are you?
Bob Valdez: I told you once before - Bob Valdez.
El Segundo: You know something, Bob Valdez, you hit one, I think, 700-800 yards.
Bob Valdez: Closer to a thousand.
El Segundo: What was it? Sharps?
      Bob Valdez: My own load.
El Segundo: You ever hunt buffalo?
      Bob Valdez: Apache.
El Segundo: I knew it. When?
Bob Valdez: Before I know better.

    3. I have that movie in my DVR. I watch it about once a month or so. Never gets old. Sadly, they don't make actors like Lancaster any more.

  8. If you use a leather padded buttpad, that metal baseplate doesn't hurt too bad.
Having said that, 4 or 5 rounds downrange is usually enough for me. It sakes your farm somethin' fierce.

I have an Italian jobshop replica from the '70's that will drop rounds in a 5 gallon paint bucket lid at 400 yards all day long using my handloads and some paper patched boolits. . .

  9. To increase the powder capacity they lengthened the case again and again.
    Case lengths are as follows 45-90 is 2.4", 45-100 is 2.6", 45-110 is 2.875" and 45-120 is 3.25".

  10. I am impressed by the knowledge shown here.

Elmo, I have business in Oakdale coming up. You interested in meeting? I'll be bringing my shooters which aren't instant felonies.

    1. Long story short, health issues preclude me from joining you. I will, however, be shooting with you vicariously. Thanks for the invite.

Pro Tip- While CA residents are legally allowed to bring only 50 rounds of ammunition into the state, there are no limits as to how much a non-resident can bring in.

      Have fun!
