  4. Read about the Air Apaches: The True Story of the 345th Bomb Group and Its Low, Fast, and Deadly Missions in World War II . So many crews were lost. Lose an engine and the crew was almost always doomed to a violent crash, or rarely a lingering one, and occasionally a Japanese beheading if captured. Great read.
