And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

I remember the 1960s version very well. My local guitar store seemed always to have one hanging on the back wall. Thought for a while about buying one, but picked up a very well-kept, used D-28 instead.
Played some H'birds that sounded great. And I've played some that have been very disappointing. Spent months playing acoustics at a bunch of different music shops. Ended up buying a new Martin HD-28p and have never regretted it.
GvB High today in Pine Grove is 78. Now that's what I call great weather.
That there is an old one, and I too remember Gibson acoustics as having inconsistent quality. Some amazing. Some lifeless. Martins have always been the best, and most consistent commercially manufactured boxes. Every picker who is anyone has at least one.

ReplyDeleteI got a Pan Hummingbird for Christmas, 1977. It is a Japanese copy, but still a great grunt box. That finger guard doesn't have much if any wear.
