And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Åstol (Swedish pronunciation: [ˈôːstuːl]) is a locality situated south of Tjörn Municipality, Västra Götaland County, Sweden with 210 inhabitants in 2010.
Nearly everyone in history pre-1950 lived in such tight quarters, and most of the world lives even tighter than that. The idea of "space" is a modern one, and not yet proven to be a good one as most people complain about how disconnected we are in today's society.

ReplyDeleteIt was a fishing village until the 1970's. Small fishing boats became obsolete, so the island is just a novelty now.
