And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

A comfortable life in Redding in the summer is only possible because of good ol' Willis. Thanks!
I'll say it again here. A technologically advanced civilization could not exist here without air conditioning.
Every summer some "European climate weenie" gets press for being mad at Americans for using air conditioning. Virtually all of Europe is north of the US. Where I live, we're at the same latitude as the southernmost part of the Sinai peninsula. We're south of most of Egypt and much of Saudi Arabia. Sorry, climate dude, you can't tell me we can live without air conditioning because you don't need it. When France gets our temperatures, thousands of people die.
When you look at a globe you can see that most all of Europe is way north of the US! That is going to be a tough place to live when this interglacial period ends. Iit's been going on over ten thousand years now),
Living in Colorado, we don't need air conditioning. The main reason for me using it in Pennsylvania was to get the humidity out of the house.
Here when the sun goes down and with the lack of humidity, the temp drops a good 20 degrees (or more). We open the windows and let the cool air in. In the morning, we close the windows, turn on the ceiling fans and pull the shades. Easy peasy... and the electric bill is reduced drastically.

DeleteModern electronics won’t work without air conditioning.

I was told by the Internet Gods that a black man invented the Air Conditioner. This has to be incorrect, the internet is never wrong.
