Via Samuel Clairmont:
Despite receiving two feet of snow in the last 30 hours, no significant signs of avalanche activity were observed today. However, the ingredients were there: wind loaded slopes, rapidly added new snow, weak grains under the new snow.

Will this snow melt make it reservoirs that feed LA?
ReplyDeleteI would expect Shasta Dam and others to spill water this Spring. Best is if we have a late, cool Spring so we can spin the hydro turbines and not waste water. Next summer will be a good season for the river gold miners too due to the high flow rates.
ReplyDeleteWill that water make it down to LA? Not much as there is only a weak link between the southern Central Valley over the Grapevine to the LA basin but I might be wrong.
Are the Sierra Nevada's getting similar snow falls?

DeleteI would love to get the job where you get to fire the recoilless rifle at the mountain to initiate the avalanche (presuming this is still done).
