  1. My first manager in my engineering career sat through the Battle of Britain as a boy in London. The only thing he ever said about it was a grim reminder that everything comes down out of the sky. Artillery, shell casings bullets, airplanes, bodies, and body parts. He had seen some things. He really helped me learn to keep my cool when things were going wrong.

  2. With all the the bombers and fighters we put up over Europe in WWII, mostly armed with .50 BMGs, I've often wondered how often someone on the ground got beaned by an empty cartridge case.

    2. Uncle Zip, but this time they're caliphate soldiers.
Ask the Spanish how hard it is to clean out an infestation of Moors.

  4. After landing on Mindanao, Dad's unit was taking fire from a Naval gun the Japs had in the mountains. Some Marine Corsairs were flying over strafing it. One of the .50 cal empties clanged off his helmet. So, yes, it happened.
